Another Seven Long Years?

" Papa kehte hai baada naam karega,
Beta humara aisa kaam karega! "

*Le Beta- Planning to gang rape a girl with his friends.

Keeping dark comedy jokes apart, what happened on last Sunday is nothing more   than every parents' nightmare. Teen pupils of some well-known schools in South Delhi were exposed online. Screenshots of a chatroom on Snapchat and Instagram went viral all over the internet. The screenshot of this online chat group called "Bois Locker Room" consisting over 100 members has caused a huge outrage all over social media. These boys in their groups on both Snapchat and Instagram, legally and ethically wrong and lewd comments about girls. The conversations in the screenshots of the group revolved around sexual assault, in frighteningly casual way. The boys used to share images of girls in the groups without the proper consent of the girl concerned. The boys then, slut-shamed, body-shamed and sexually objectified girls.

"I will rape her easily", one of the posts read.

The case got even worse when a 19 year old college student filed a case, when she discovered her images shared on the chatroom, along with comment too crude and obscene to be said.

But, something that is more alarming is the comments of some Twitter users on the posts of the girls who raised their voice.

One of the remarks read-

"Abhi tak rape kiya toh nahi naa?"

Now, these people are apparently suggesting us to wait until a girl is brutally raped!

Later on, the members of the same group are said to threaten the girls to leak their nudes if, they don't stop posting against them. A comment on a Twitter post said, "Nudes toh share krne k liye hi click krti h ladkiya." People have this sick mindset regarding nudes. Nowhere, I am supporting, clicking of nudes. But, this is completely a individuals choice.

According to a international poll, conducted in 2018 during the MeToo Movement, India was voted as the least safe country for a woman to live in this whole world. I think its high time we bust the nonsensical patriarchal system. Cases like this are considered as foundations for normalisation of rape culture and outright sexual assault.

We Indians should talk about more humane topics like this, than fighting and debating over political issues. Proper sex education is also a way out of these problems which should be addressed by a parent to a child. Stricter action should be taken which could set an example for others. Rape laws should be revised and should not take long to attain justice in favour of the victim.

Ironically, it is said that there were several females in the chat groups too. We girls should stand for each other rather than pulling each other down or silently watching the whole scene.

Even, thinking about raping a girl is dangerous, it should better be stopped than, waiting for something to happen!

If Nirbhaya case can take long seven years, this case of cyber offence can take a lot more time!

So, the question is- Will this case also take long seven years or more?
