Possibilities of revamping The Indian Education System, from a students perspective!

India's female literacy rate has increased for the third time in a row, which in turn leaves the total literacy rate of India at 74.04%. I am really happy that the female literacy rate has finally been increasing! But, I feel that the Indian education pattern needs a revamp now and fast to utilize its vast it human resources.

Indian education system is quite an old and outmoded education system that still exists. Nevertheless, it has produced so many genius minds that are making India proud all over the world. However, while it is one of the oldest systems, it still not that developed when compared to others countries, which are in fact newer. Indian education system is still stuck in old age and needs growth and advancement, which will help India to reach its full potential and its dangerously growing population. India's education system's rank in the world is 131.

*This blog is going to be long. You will love it if you think that the eduaction system needs a change!*

I would love to add a Parents's caricature in the above picture,
I have reasons, I will discuss it!

There is a dire need for revolutionary changes in India's education system. Not just the syllabus and pedagogy, but also the marking system and many more! Let's discuss it, point wise!

1. Introduction to Sex Education.

Believe me or not, I have sent an e-mail (I will put a screenshot down) to the Principal of my school, Delhi Public School, North Kolkata, regarding this issue. I have requested her to organize a counselling session or a small seminar in the school for every student of Class 7 to Class 12, being compulsory to attend it, after everything get backs to normal. The rapid increment in the rape cases in our country is due to the lack of proper sex education. It is definitely one of the major reasons. Teach the students about sex and consent in a simple, valuable and knowledgeable way, rather than being awkward about it!

Let's take a look at the world's best education system- Finnish Education System. Their education system is at the first position. All the first ranking students in competitive exams and competitions like Olympiads are from Finland. Finland has a very efficient and smooth education system. Every child doesn't go to any formal school till the age of 7. They are given time to grow physically, mentally and creatively until they are seven and in primary school. Yahan toh bacha theek se bolta nhi h..Usse phle hi school m daal dete h!🤦🏻‍♀️

So, what do they exactly do before the age of seven? Are they just at home ideally? No! They are sent to day-care centers or what they call it 'preschool' is a place, where they are introduced to mathematics, environmental awareness, and nature in a informative and playful way with live examples, which make it easy for a child to grasp the knowledge fast! Basically, they are prepared for the basics!

After the age of seven, they enter into a 'primary school' which continue until they are 16, which means just 9 years of proper education! Everything after that is optional, they are given two options- academic or vocational track, which in turn will get them into a university (for academic track) or trade or working university (for vocational track). They are called graduates at the age of 18! Isn't it amazing! At the age of eighteen, they give the only standardized test of their lives, called the National Matriculation Examination, which is the only exception. Before the age of 18, they are never marked on their written exams, they are graded just on the basis of their experiments, practicals, and their knowledge!

Now, what can India extract from them?

2. Give emphasis on basics and that too practically!

Next time you go to get your bike or car repaired, just ask the mechanic about his educational qualification, I bet he hasn't gone to a college, but he repairs your vehicle with the same ease and professionally, knowing the parts of the vehicles in and out. On the other hand, will you ever expect a mechanical engineer to know the physics behind each and every part, with same proficiency and knowledge?

What lacks in the education of an engineer is?
Practical Knowledge. Demonstrate the law or the principle with an experiment. It is easy to forget what you read, but its almost impossible to forget what you see!

3. They make a fish climb a tree!

Now, you will think a fish can't climb a tree, right? No, you are wrong, many fishes do succeed climbing the tree, our education system is very good at manufacturing average climber's!

However, a fish will discover it later that, it is more passionate and awesome at swimming and would have excelled at it! But, when I say LATER, I mean much much LATER! Why didn't they discover it? The Mainstream Thinking! We are so busy cramming on subjects that are not even closely related to the things or career we want to have!

I won't say that basic knowledge about a subject or field isn't necessary, It is! But, to a certain class and age. Let everyone choose what they want, and provide a vast set of options, include newer theories and studies.

4. Providing education has become a business for the educational institutions!

Please just stop this, before you revamp anything! We get craft kits worth 1000 every year! That kit is useless, they are not even used in the craft classes! In this pandemic even, schools are running behind our parents to fill our fees, just on the sake of online classes! And the best one, they are even asking for 50% of transportation fees? Why the heck will you ask for the transportation fees when we won't put our asses on the seats for more than a year?

Pure Business!

5. Focus on imparting knowledge and not on unit test and class test and what not!🤷

When the whole world is terrified by a small invisible creature in the air, which can put you to death, Indian examination boards are worried about exams which students couldn't give due to the nation-wide lockdown!

This is a great example which explains that, Indian education is all about exams and not about quality knowledge or imparting awareness!

Please try taking a less number of examinations and tests all around the year! And try to make us understand a particular topic properly rather than just 'completing the damn syllabus'!

6. Introduce vocational studies or activities.

Indian schools should really try introducing this in their routine. Be it public speaking, art and craft, dance, or singing. Make it cumpulsory for a student to be active in any one of the activities the school is providing! Every student has a inner talent in him or her! Don't introduce it as a 'CCA Class', make it compulsory! Give everyone equal chances!

And Please DON'T always promote main- stream careers like being a doctor or an Engineer. Promote careers like Interior Designing, Journalism, Fashion Designing and in that case even Freelancing! In my perspective these careers options are going to be on the top soon!

  2. There is an accute need of change in our education system. We all know this can't be done in every schools immediately, but different educational institutions, organization should try to implement these in their respective school ,premises so that a good start can be make and create a positive impact on everyone.
Raising issues is not easy though but what you are doing is commendable. Keep up
